Summary

The Micron Jet MJQ is a target(impact) type jet mill with an integrated classifier, achieving the highest milling performance of its type. It also boasts high cleanability. It is possible to fabricate the contact part in all solid ceramics.
To increase the milling efficiency of jet mill increasing of the feed dust load is common method in general. However if the feed dust load is increased the integrated classifier load increases reducing classification accuracy. And it is also necessary to increase hold-up quantity in the mill. Therefore it is not suitable to process small quantity of high value materials. This mill is developed to solve this problem. The dust concentration in the mill is graded (increase feed dust load and reduce classifier dust load) so that milling efficiency is increased.

Principle

As shown in Fig.1, the classifier is located in the center of the casing. The grinding nozzle and the target plate is positioned in the lower part of the casing. As the mill consists of simple parts overall cleanability is very high, and it is possible to convert to all ceramics construction.
The feed material collides with the target plate with the air of a jet stream from the grinding nozzle. Ground find particles are immediately discharged out of the system after grinding and the still coarse particles circulate in the mill until they become fine enough.
Because of this construction circulating jet air form for half free vortex in the mill, in this half free vortex depending on particle size circulating diameter changes varies. Only coarse particles stay around casing outer circumference whereas fine ones can stay around classifying rotor area. In this effect, dust load in the mill can be graded.

Applications

Despite of issues of wear of target and/or sticking, high milling efficiency (capacity/unit power) and very limited hold-up quantity in the mill make it possible to process composite materials such as rare earth and magnet materials.
• Ceramics such as oxides, nitrides and carbides
• Magnet materials such as neodymium iron boron, samarium cobalt
• Utilization of nitrogen gases (N2) as well as inert gases for grinding of rare-earth materials (neodymium iron boron, samarium cobalt, etc.)
• Contamination free materials such as battery materials
• Hi-value and adhesive materials such as cosmetics
