Spiral Jet Mill AS

Summary

The Spiral Jet mill has a simple structure with a classifying mechanism that utilizes the spiral airflow generated within the machine. It has the ability to ultra-fine grind raw materials with low-melting points to sizes of a few μm. The machine can be manufactured to correspond with GMP, CIP/SIP standards, making it a suitable machine for grinding a wide variety of materials for pharmaceuticals.

As shown in Fig.2, the grinding air first passes through the socket(c) and flows into the air ring (d). From there, the air flows through the Laval nozzles set in a helical manner and is injected into the grinding chamber at high speeds reaching the speed of sound. Air for feeding the raw material passes through socket (k) and flows into the ejector (b). The raw material is fed into the grinding chamber from the feed chute via suction force generated by the ejector air (30% of total compressed air volume) and is instantly captured by the spiral air-flow of the grinding air. From this mechanism, the raw material is then ground by the impact/friction generated from the particles colliding with each other and the nozzle ring (e). The comminuted materials are then classified by the whirlpool vortex developed within the grinding chamber. The processed fine particles are discharged through the outlet (h) by the grinding air. The coarse particles remain inside the grinding chamber by centrifugal force, and are ground once again.

The unique design of the outlet allows the Spiral Jet Mill to perform efficient fine particle classification. The airflow inside the grinding chamber is directly affected by the concentration of raw material within the chamber. When the concentration of raw material is high, less centrifugal force is applied due to a turbulence build up, which in turn leads to a coarser product size. Therefore, the balance between material concentration and classification air volume become the major key elements for product size control. Nozzle angle adjustments are another essential condition for controlling product size but it requires the whole nozzle ring to be exchanged.

  • Ultra-fine grinding of dry materials with crystalline structures of up to a Mohs hardness value of 3.
  • Applicable for size reduction of high-grade pharmaceuticals and/or fine-grade chemicals, especially when there is a demand for purity and fineness of the end products.
  • Applicable for cathode materials used for secondary batteries that cannot have metal contaminations.
  • Standard example of specifications: maximum raw material size of approximately 1.5mm, product size d97=5-30μm.

Tabletop type, for experimental production. (minimum process amount of 10g~)

  • 50AS: Suitable for laboratories

The 50AS is a compact tabletop machine developed specifically for laboratories, which research and produce new pharmaceuticals.

The machine can be operated with a minimum raw material amount of 10g, and has a high product collection rate.

The structure allows for easy cleaning and sterilization, which corresponds to larger production scale models. The pharmaceutical model has standard surface treatment as well. (Ra=0.4μm)
